To be a PilgrimWhen we look at all the people gathered on our diocesan pilgrimage we catch a glimpse of the diocesan family. When we consider what it means to be a pilgrim we can catch a glimpse of our own journey of faith, our spiritual journey which we begin at the first moment of our existence. Our own journey of faith is a journey towards God. In many ways our pilgrimage can be regarded as part of that journey. It is indeed a journey, a long journey, partly through the night in the dark, and some in daylight. It is very much a journey travelled in hope with faith and love. It is an opportunity to use our talents and skills for the service of those around us and, remember, everyone has something to offer during our pilgrimage. It is above all a moment for prayer, a moment with Mary to 'treasure all these things and ponder them in our hearts,' so that we can proclaim the greatness of God. Our pilgrimage will remind us that we are not alone on our spiritual journey but we travel with many companions on the road. Our joining in the International Mass on Sunday will show us that people from every nation and tongue have joined in that spiritual journey - together. We pray for each other on the way. As we journey together we get to know each other and so it is important that we speak to each other and reach out in friendship to those journeying with us. As pilgrims we keep a special eye for those who have set out alone, or who do not seem to have anyone with them. May these days of pilgrimage help us come closer to God
and each other and see us refreshed in the Spirit so that we can continue
our own spiritual journey with renewed confidence.
